We’ll soon be saying goodbye to an unusually warm winter in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to welcome the spring season, at least that’s what our calendars tell us. When you live in South Dakota, you learn to never predict weather patterns. As soon as there’s the first 60 degree day + you think it’s time to put away the winter coats, it will blizzard the next day. Regardless of the current temperature, The Event Company team is rounding up all of the best parts of spring!

The spring season seems to bring a fresh energy each year! I always like how everyone around me feels more energetic + excited for their plans after work, because there’s still daylight! I personally get excited to spend more time outdoors — whether it’s a walk, a round of golf, a patio with friends, or starting to garden prep in the fresh air. Spring is such a happy time + I visualize tulips blooming!

I always joke that as the outside defrosts this time each year, so does my personality. I seem to be a much happier person in the spring/summer! There are so many beautiful things about spring (aka the promise of summer around the corner), but my favorite thing has to be spring fashion! There’s no better feeling than packing up the coats, gloves, boots + other bulky, but necessary, winter clothing items + switching them out for light + bright spring clothes! Growing up, I remember my parents taking me + my sisters shopping for new spring clothes each year. It was usually to pick out a new dress for Easter Sunday, but if we were lucky, we could pick out some new sandals or outfits for school too! It was always so fun to decide which color I would choose for my Easter dress + I would usually obsess over that color for the rest of the year! Even though I don’t dress as colorfully these days, I think my “color” this year is going to be either lavender or peach. I’ve been seeing lavender everywhere as spring lines roll out + Peach Fuzz is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2024!

My favorite thing about spring is the weather changing + the flowers blooming! I love that the sun is out more + people are out enjoying the outdoors! My favorite way to enjoy the outdoors is having a drink outside on a patio any chance I can get. Easter is a fun holiday to celebrate with Everly, my bonus daughter. She loves to do Easter egg hunts + all the other festivities that come with the holiday! My birthday is also in spring + I LOVE my birthday!

The overall feeling of ‘refresh’ that the season brings is my favorite part of spring. With warmer weather + sunshine, my overall mood starts to feel refreshed + I love getting to spend more time outside. It’s also a refresh time for my golf game as it comes out of winter. Personally, I always like to refresh my home with spring cleaning, too. It’s a time to refresh + recharge + I love it!

My favorite thing about spring is being able to go on walks daily! There is something about the air in the spring – so fresh + crisp. I love hearing the birds chirping, feeling the sun a bit more than the winter + feeling so refreshed after a spring afternoon walk!

I love the rejuvenation that comes with spring weather. I always do a rummage sale in April which is the perfect reason to clean out what I don’t need anymore + do some deep spring cleaning. I’m excited to spend some time outside this spring with our new puppy + of course, my girls love jumping on the trampoline + riding bikes! My husband, Charlie, likes to fish in the spring which is good family time, too. Bring on the sun!

Easter is my favorite thing about spring because it symbolizes renewal + hope. As flowers bloom + days grow longer, Easter brings joy + celebration of Jesus, the sacrifice He made for us + new beginnings. The holiday is not just about colorful eggs + sweet treats, but about reflection, gratitude + spending time with loved ones. For me, Easter represents the promise of growth, forgiveness + the triumph of light over darkness.

Did you know the tilt of the Earth from March to June actually allows longer wavelengths of light, like red + orange, to penetrate the atmosphere more in spring than any other season? This is my absolute favorite part of spring + why I find it to be one of the dreamiest seasons — no rose-colored glasses needed — they occur naturally this time of year! There is something so beautiful + unique about the afternoon light in spring that makes me feel hopeful for all that’s to come as the weather gets warmer. As a poet, I can always count on spring to make me feel inspired + in awe of the natural beauty around me.

Spring colors are truly my favorite thing about spring + especially the color yellow. The taste of a tangy slice of lemon cake, yellow tulips + daffodils, the shining sun, lemon sherbet + of course a glass of freshly squeezed lemonade. I feel so rejuvenated being around all things yellow. It elicits my feelings of happiness + positivity. Can you tell I am excited for spring?
